Project of the Zlín Region’s Cultural and Creative Center

Main Objective of the Project

To establish the Zlín Region’s Cultural and Creative Center at the Čipera Villa, with a focus on the cultural and creative industries.

Scope of the Project

The aim of the project was to foster interest in the cultural and creative industries among the general public, with a focus on children and pupils from an early age, through innovative theoretical and practical approaches. The Cultural and Creative Center presents a permanent exhibition in the form of tour routes through the Čipera Villa focusing on the legacy of Director Čipera of the Baťa Company and on the themes of housing and design (e.g., furniture, product design, fashion, applied arts…) related to Zlín’s creative tradition and its current development. The Cultural and Creative Center will also host other activities, such as creative workshops, arts & crafts symposia and design seminars, as well as other educational or networking events focused on creativity and design.

In the Zlín Region, this initiative will bring together creative industry entities in design, architecture, and contemporary art with secondary schools of art and applied arts specializing in glassmaking, bentwood furniture, artistic metalwork and woodworking, the audiovisual sector, as well as with memory organizations serving as a repository of the region’s cultural heritage and the collective memory of the Zlín Region’s residents.

The project involved not only the reconstruction of the Čipera Villa itself, but also the remodeling of its surroundings (landscaping of the garden, reconstruction of roads and paved areas, construction of parking lots, reconstruction of the wooden terrace, reconstruction of the caretaker’s (gardener’s) house, construction of a playground, and reconstruction of outdoor storage facilities). The remodeled outdoor spaces will be used for educational programs and cultural events in the open air. With the reconstruction of the caretaker’s (gardener’s) house, space was also created for providing overnight accommodation. The reconstructed outdoor storage facilities will be used as a base for the educational center to store educational aids, tables, and chairs. At the same time, they will serve as storage space for equipment needed for operations.

The reconstruction of the villa, which is a listed cultural monument, and its restoration to its original appearance to the greatest extent possible also served to enhance the sustainability of the cultural infrastructure.
